The Gear tab holds one shared list for the hike — the master inventory of what the trip needs — while every hiker tracks their own status against it. The list is shared; whether you've packed the tent is yours.
Building The List
The hike owner and co-admins manage the list itself:
- organise items into categories (Shelter, Cooking, Clothing, First aid…)
- add items one by one, or use the gear wizard to bulk-add from curated preset lists and then prune to taste
The list is a shared reminder checklist — the things the trip needs — not a weighed inventory of what each person owns. Everyone's tent, stove and sleeping bag are different, and most hikers carry plenty that was never on the admin's list.
Your Packing Status
Every member marks their own status per item — Packed ✓, Considering ?, Not bringing ✗ and friends. You can see the whole pack's status at a glance, which is exactly how you catch that nobody is bringing a stove the night before the drive.
Tip: Status updates work offline — tick things off as you physically pack, even in the garage with no Wi-Fi, and it syncs when you're back online.
Your Backpack
The Your Backpack card is where you record two personal numbers:
- Base backpack weight — everything you carry that isn't food or water, including your fuel
- Usual water carry — your default, used on any day you haven't set separately
Together with your food weights these produce your expected backpack weight for every day of the trip, shown on the itinerary. Only you can change them — but they aren't secret: the Everyone's Backpack list below the card shows each hiker's base weight and their average, heaviest and lightest days to the rest of the pack, which is rather the point when you're working out who carries the tent.
